TSA PRECHECK: WHAT IS IT?

TSA Pre-Check is a program that allows pre-qualified, low-risk travelers (and their children under 12) to expedite their security screening process at the airport. Pre-Check is accessible for most international as well as domestic travel. 18 airlines now take part, and there are over 180 airports.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES TSA PRE-CHECK OFFER?

With TSA Pre-Check, you can frequently use a specialized line to quickly get through airport security. You won’t need to take your electronics or liquids out of your bag to pass through security. When being screened, you may also wear your shoes, jacket, and belt.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE TSA PRE-CHECK?

TSA PreCheck membership was formerly restricted to regular travellers on specific airlines, but it is now open to everyone. You must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States in order to apply for TSA Pre-Check. There is no minimum age requirement to apply, however keep in mind that your membership is valid for usage by any accompanying children under the age of 12. If you have specific criminal convictions, give false information, or have previously broken customs or immigration regulations, you will not be eligible for approval.

SHOULD I GET TSA PRE-CHECK?

The majority of folks who have TSA PreCheck would tell you that the cost was well worth it. You only pay roughly $4 each flight for the perk even if you only travel twice a year (roundtrip).

Pre-Check enrollment is pretty easy to do. You must first complete your application and pay the application cost online. The TSA often responds quickly, and when they do, they’ll invite you to schedule an in-person interview at a TSA Pre-Check registration facility. You will provide a few types of identification during your interview and respond to a few questions. You’ll also be fingerprinted and subject to a background investigation. If accepted, you will obtain your “Known Traveler Number” (KTN), which you will use to make future air travel arrangements, typically within 5 business days after the in-person interview. Your boarding cards will have “TSA Pre-Check” inscribed on them if you use that number, making you eligible for accelerated screening.
